Limbo v3 Revisions, by Randi Sumner and
Jason DeLuca
Another experimental LARP of the minimalist genre*
All the hate, all the madness, and all the devastation - you saw it all unravel back to the beginning and rebuild itself completely anew. You envisioned it as it could have been.
But all the good unraveled as well - the love and the warmth that grew out of the insanity of the moment. That truth was dispersed and lost along with the ghastly. Where there is black, there is white. Where there is evil, there is good. North and south, east and west – the universe is filled with opposing partners constantly dancing across the equilibrium. All the interconnected juxtapositions within us are within everything - binding reality together. As you saw it happen, you saw how it wove tighter and tighter and tighter and tighter until the tension itself caused everything to unravel again.
You felt the conflict in your muscles, your bones, in the very fiber of your being. In that one moment you saw how it all could have been different for each of you. You knew that your actions did matter. You could choose. Your choice would transform everything.
She held your hand and you felt all the emotion flow out of you – a history of all that made you what you are. You felt the freedom of its release. In your detached state, critique became possible and the power of choice self-evident. Time had no meaning. Time had new meaning. You squeezed her hand and the world around you melted away into nothingness.
But you faltered. The emotions poured back into you. You were captured in the solitary confinement of self-actualization. You couldn’t hold her eye contact. The truth was too strong. You grasped how to answer, but you found yourself simply unable say the words. You knew that your determination would define your past, your present and your future. Your eye’s fluttered and looked away in the shame of uncertainty.
Wants and needs melted into each other too fast and began pulling you, pulling you, pulling you back. You looked into her eyes again hoping to find your answer and found her suddenly so very distant. The anguish was to powerful. Her eyes became steadily remote and indescribable. Time rushed back into you, holding you there. The moment lasted forever and then was gone in a blink.
You couldn’t bear the weight of it all tumbling back into you. Clamping your eyes shut, your whole body shivered and heaved with the heaviness of yourself, of your world, of your vacillation. The moment was gone and you plunged into an eternity of sleep without dreams.
You awoke sharp and alert as if you have never known exhaustion. A fog-like haze surrounds you. Slowly, as if you eyes have never seen light, it seems to be clear. You approach the haze near you and become conscious of voices just out of range.
You began to move about and realize the shadows within your radius of self-awareness are becoming solid objects. All around you the world is coming into focus.
You do not recognize this place. You walk a few steps and turn around. The haze follows you, but with less strength where you have already explored. You approach the sound of voices. Others are here you do not recognize.
